Newby Wyke (H111) was an old 178 ft Hull steam trawler built for the West Dock Steam Fishing Company. Click here to see our new article on the link between Newby Wyke and a daring North Sea balloon rescue...

She was the last of the West Dock "Wykes". All the ships were named after villages in the Bridlington & Scarborough area.
Her funnel colour was black with a wide red band, our casks now bear similar markings.
She was skippered by the Brewer's Grandfather and hence the name of the brewery.

During the 1930's depression in the fishing industry some companies were sold. Newby Wyke was allocated to Lord Line.
As a result her funnel colours changed, but she continued to bear the name Newby Wyke.
She was eventually scrapped at Albert Drapers Victoria Dock Slipway on April 26th 1975.
